Hungry Monster

You need: 

  1. A tennis balls 

  1. A Stanley knife 

  1. A permanent marker 

  1. ‘Food’- this can be any small items you can find like buttons 

How to make it: 

  1. Make an incision along one side of the tennis ball so that when it is pressed either side of the incision the ball opens like a mouth 

  1. Decorate the ball as desired with eyes/mouth/teeth 

  1. Encourage your child to squeeze the ‘monster’ with one hand and place the ‘food’ in its mouth 

How it can be used to support learning: 

  1. Developing hand-eye co-ordination  

  1. Developing pick up and release using hands 

  1. Improving thumb and forefinger grasp 

  1. Developing hand strength  

  1. Maintaining a sustained grasp of an object 

  1. Watching their hands when they do something 

  1. Transferring an object from one hand to the other 

  1. Placing an item with accuracy 

  1. Using two hands simultaneously  

  1. Transferring an object across their midline
